Some stations, such as Angepena, organised large gymkhana events. In 1956, “Topics” recorded over 100 cars arrived for the annual Angepena Race Club meeting. Over 50 horses were entered in the events and people came from as far as Adelaide and Broken Hill “to see a good days racing”. In addition to the races, the gymkhana often had horsemanship competitions including events such as barrel races, horse quoits, galloping darts, flag & barrel and stockman’s challenge. This rare collection of photographs and an 8mm home movie were taken in 1956/57 by the Treloar family from Umberatana Station.
