In the days of steam, the Great Northern Railway relied on many sidings such as Beltana, Copley, Telford (Leigh Creek), Lyndhurst and Marree for water, fuel and supplies. The small towns that grew around these sidings linked together to form a regional community. They often shared services, sporting events and other social links with the residents of Leigh Creek.
