Swimming
The residents of Leigh Creek started to dig a swimming pool by hand in 1951. But it was not until after Aroona Dam was completed in 1955 that the resources were available to complete its construction. Eventually the pool was opened in December 1956 and it quickly became the centre of the community for most families and kids. It was here that everyone learnt to swim. Most have the same fond memories of eating bush biscuits and swimming for hours before lying on the hot concrete to get warm.
