In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s home movies were a very popular past time. Many families grew up watching mum and dad and the children on holidays, at the beach or having a BBQ in the backyard. The movies may have been blurry, have the jitters, been out of focus and badly exposed, but they are still great memories. Now, many old home movies are hidden away in a dusty corner, the projector is long gone, and the wonderful memories they record cannot easily be accessed. In some cases, children and grandchildren have never even seen them. But old home movies don’t last forever. They are made of cellulose acetate which deteriorates causing the film to become brittle, shrink, and take on an acidic odor, which smells like vinegar. Once this degradation begins, it cannot be reversed. We use a digitising machine, and a lot of time, to convert and preserve these priceless family home movies and really bring the old Leigh Creek back to life
