“The Fruit Salad Army”

Marching was a very popular pastime for girls in the 1950s and 60s. During this time it is estimated there were more than 30,000 marching girls in Australia. Sometimes known as the Fruit Salad Army, because of their many coloured uniforms, they donned jaunty caps, short skirts, and high white boots - and marched.
