Leigh Creek Resident’s Stories, Memories & Photographs

“Old” Leigh Creek 1943 - 1983

Welcome to ‘LEIGH CREEK – THE OLD TOWN PROJECT’
Leigh Creek “old town” was unique and holds a special place in the lives of the people who lived there.
This project enables old township residents to share their stories, memories & photographs to preserve our town’s history.

We are excited to announce that our book “Black Rock, Blue Sky” has been reprinted and is now available again. In 2022 we designed and installed a permanent exhibition at Leigh Creek using much of the information collected by Leigh Creek - The Old Town Project. The exhibition name “Black Rock, Blue Sky”, is a collection of photographic panels that relate the 75 year history of the Leigh Creek Coalfield. It is a unique story of two towns and is a fascinating insight into the coal mine and the people who lived and worked there. We also captured the history of Leigh Creek Coalfield in a unique souvenir book that includes all of the original exhibition panels plus many more. Click on the book image to find out more……
